Those licenses are not prorated.

Iron County's tax certificate sale takes place on the fourth Monday in August at 10:00 a.m. at the Iron County Courthouse. Properties going to sale get published in the Mountain Echo newspaper for three consecutive weeks in July. Under Chapter 140 of the Revised Statutes, buyers at the sale pay the back taxes and receive a certificate. The original owner has a redemption period to reclaim the property.

Iron County Tax Records and Appeals

If your Iron County property is assessed too high, appeal to the Board of Equalization. File with the county clerk before the third Monday in June. Bring any evidence that supports a lower value.

If the board does not change your assessment, go to the Missouri State Tax Commission. File by September 30 or within 30 days of the board's decision. The commission holds formal hearings at no charge for residential properties. The Missouri State Assessors Association has resources for understanding the appeals process. Under RSMo 139.031, missing the December 31 payment deadline starts the penalty clock, so resolving assessment disputes before the bill comes due helps avoid extra costs.
