St. Charles County Tax Quick Facts
St. Charles County Tax Collector
The St. Charles County Collector of Revenue handles all property tax payments. You can search tax records and pay online through their website. The collector's office also has a separate online portal through Public Access Now for detailed tax lookups and payments.
The collector's website lets you search by owner name, parcel number, or account number to view your tax bill and payment history.
There is an important thing to know about online payments in St. Charles County. The online payment transaction receipt is NOT enough for license plate renewal. You need the official paid personal property tax receipt from the collector's office. Those receipts are mailed from the office after your payment processes. Allow five business days for mail time and the state database to update. If you need your receipt right away, do not pay online. Instead, come to the collector's office, pay with card, cash, check or money order, and leave with your official paid receipt in hand.
The site and pay-by-phone system stop accepting payments at the start of each month for about three business days. The "data as of" date on the site shows the most recent change to the record. The site displays the current owner and tax history but does not show historical ownership. For chain of title information, contact the Recorder of Deeds office. Technical problems with the website do not extend the deadline for payment, so pay early to be safe.
Note: The collector's contact page has office hours, phone numbers, and directions.
St. Charles County Property Tax Assessment
The St. Charles County Assessor determines the market value for all real estate and personal property. Assessed values are calculated using the rates set by RSMo 137.115. Residential property is assessed at 19% of market value. Commercial is 32%. Agricultural land uses a 12% rate. Personal property including vehicles, boats, and equipment is assessed at 33 1/3% of book value.
If no bill is showing on the online portal, the assessor may not have received your personal property assessment form. File your declaration by March 1 each year to avoid the late penalties set by RSMo 137.280. Real property is reassessed every two years in odd-numbered years. The county clerk applies local levy rates to your assessed value to calculate the final tax bill. Different taxing districts in St. Charles County have different levy rates, so properties with the same value in different parts of the county may have different bills.
