The Jasper County Assessor office is at 302 S. Main St., Room 201, Carthage, MO 64836. The assessor handles real estate and personal property valuations for every parcel in the county. A GIS mapping system is available for parcel searches. The office processes assessment appeals and sends cases to the Board of Equalization when needed.
Under RSMo 137.115, residential property is assessed at 19% of market value in Jasper County and every other Missouri county. Commercial property is assessed at 32%. Agricultural land uses a 12% rate based on productivity. Personal property, including vehicles and equipment, is assessed at 33 1/3% of book value. Real estate gets reassessed every two years in odd-numbered years. Jasper County has a mix of city property in Joplin and Carthage, suburban growth along Highway 71, and plenty of rural and agricultural land on the edges. Each type of property goes through the same assessment process but with different valuation methods.

Jasper County Tax Collection
The Jasper County Collector handles tax billing and payments. The collector's office is also at 302 S. Main St. in Carthage. Tax bills go out in the fall. All Jasper County property taxes are due by December 31. Late payments trigger interest starting January 1 under RSMo 139.031.
You can pay at the courthouse in person, send a check by mail, or ask about online payment options. Processing fees may apply for electronic payments. The county itself does not keep the processing fees. A mailed check is on time if the postmark is before December 31. You need a paid personal property tax receipt from the collector to renew your vehicle plates in Missouri. The collector distributes tax revenue to the county, cities, school districts, fire districts, and other taxing entities that serve your parcel.

Jasper County Personal Property Taxes
Every Jasper County resident who owns a vehicle, boat, trailer, or other personal property must file a declaration by March 1. The assessor uses book values to figure out what your items are worth. Late filers get a penalty of $15 to $105 under RSMo 137.280.

Appealing Jasper County Tax Assessments
Property owners who think their Jasper County assessment is too high can appeal. Start with the assessor for an informal review. If that does not resolve it, file with the Board of Equalization before the third Monday in June. Bring comparable sales from your area, a recent appraisal, or condition documentation.
The State Tax Commission takes cases past the county board. File by September 30. There is no fee for residential appeals. Joplin, the largest city in the county, has seen rebuilding and growth since the 2011 tornado, and property values in some neighborhoods have changed significantly. If your home is in one of those areas, pay close attention to your assessed value each cycle.

Jasper County Tax Credits
The Missouri Department of Revenue offers a property tax credit for qualifying seniors and disabled individuals. Homeowners can get up to $1,100. Renters may receive up to $750. File the claim on your state tax return or separately.
